Seaford 14/05/2011

by rev_suicide on May.16, 2011, under Sea Fishing

Damn, this is not funny anymore.

Fished -2/+3 over HT at the buckle at seaford! used mainly squid on pennels, fixed and pulleys.

Nothing at all, plenty of crab bites, but no fish bites.

Can’t be bothered to write about it, this needs to change, and soon.

Planing another trip this coming saturday, gonan pull all the stops out to break this 4/3+ session blank i have been having!

Pagham 16/04/2011

by rev_suicide on May.10, 2011, under Sea Fishing

Well well, a little late on this report.

Went to Pagham beach by the sailing club, what an abisimal session.

4 people, 7 rods, £80 of bait, 7 diff baits.

Live peeler, sandeel, rag, lug, Squid, mackeral and more.

We fished for 4hours before HT and 2 hours after.

Not a sausage (or a fish).

I had one large bite on some peeler, but was well over by the time i got to the rod.

Apart from that no bites, no fish, uneventful to say the least.

This is by far the worst session I have ever been on. Well at least it can only get better, aye!

Brighton Marina 12/03/11

by rev_suicide on Mar.17, 2011, under Sea Fishing

Well fished brighton marina at the weekend with a good friend.

I had heard it was not fishing very well, but there has been a Chinese guy that has been pulling up Herring a fair amount, so i went to the the tackle box to get some Black Lug (wanted rag really to target some flatties, but they only had Lug, typical), I also got a herring feather trace to have a go on the ugly stick.

Unfortunately by the time I got there and fishing it was 5pm and starting to get dark and only an hour after low tide. tried a few casts with the feathers, but alas nothing and the light was deteriorating fairly fast!

Away with the feather and concentrate on the big rod. We fished 3 hook sctrach rigs to tempt out the flatties, even used a bullet weight at the top to get the whole rig on the bottom to attract the flatties. But alas no flatties and soon the pesky whitting came in, but what was this….. none any bigger than about 15cm. not a good situation to be in. Caught a few slugs and more whitting. Did have one result caught a Whiting, Rockling and a crab at once, with the crab being on the top hook, so at least it was confirmed my rig is fully lying on the bottom.

After more and more whiting we decided to use them as live bait, so rigged up a 8′ pennel pully rig and swung out a small whiting just a few meters from the base of the wall! alas, bugger all!!

The evening got very cold and we left for the warm lounge and some warm food!

Fishing this time of year….

by rev_suicide on Mar.07, 2011, under Sea Fishing

Bah, bah and more bah.

Been doing bits of fishing out and about, in between cold spells, god, aint it rubbish this time of year.

Done some renegade fishing at the hot pipe and shoreham harbour. Nothing, often there are not even any bites.

Hit Brighton marina over the weekend with a friend. Got some herring feathers from tackle shop there, but it think i arrived too late for any herrings. DOn’t know much about herrings, so will have a to have a look this week on what is involved in catching them and when they feed etc… apart from a bit of feather action, had some scratching rigs out for flatties, but not a sausage and then the whitting came in. Great if you have not fished them before, but alas they were very small, none were even close the min size. Ended up using some as live bait, hooking them with a single hook thru the upper lip. I put my hook thru his nose acidently figured the fish would be ok, it like a nose piercing init… no! it was dead pretty quickly. live bait on my friends rod was hooked only thru the top lip, and this seened to survive much better, as after an hour or so, it was still flapping well. Rockling, Whitting and a suprise crab was caught!! all in all rubbish!!

06/11/2010 – Pagham Beach

by rev_suicide on Nov.08, 2010, under Sea Fishing

After advice from the tackle shop worker we decided to hit Pagham beach for some night fishing action.

Time – 2100-0300
Sea – Flat, Hardly Any Swell at all, maximum of 6?. Great water visibilty.
Weather – No Moonlight, medium cloud cover and warm for an autumn night
Wind – North 1 knots (almost none)
Tide – HT – 2340, 4.7m, Spring
Bait – Mocal Ragworm,  Some strange crab paste From Ebay.
Tackle – 13? Beachcasters, Fixed spool reel with 20lb mono, 60lb clear leader about 4 foot. Sliding Ledger, 2 Hook Paternoster, 3 hook Paternoster (1down 2up)

We arrived at Pagham beach without a clue of where to fish or even how to get to the beach. We drove around a little, wow what a strange place, it is like a caravan park that has been there for way too long, and eaten way to much McDonalds. Strange vibe from around the area too. After more reccy we still could not find the beach, so i got on the iPhone to find out where we need to go, peeps said goto the amusments and park near there, head to the sailing club, the beach behind there is popular. Awesome, found parking and the beach! when we started to hit the beach it dawns to us how popular this streach of beach was, we managed to find a peg that was far enought away from other parties so we would not disturb them.

06/11/2010 – Bosham

by rev_suicide on Nov.08, 2010, under Sea Fishing

Arrived on a weekend away to fix a old Mini of a friends that has been in storage for a number of years. The owner was unable to get a battery in time and as a result we were really unable to do anything to the mini.

We had our rods and tackle with us, and decided to go on a fishing session. When we arrived at Bosham sailing club the tide was well on the Ebb and nearly hitting low tide. Alot of mud flats were expossed, and very sticky with thick mud (Surprise surprise). We could see some movement from big fish out in the water, and after clumbing and glooping through the mud eventually got a point were we could try and hit these fish. On first impressions my Friend and I throught they were late season bass, so we grabbed the spinning rods and plugs, to go catch a bass.

Saltdean Lido 16/10/2010 – Bass Yeah!!!

by rev_suicide on Oct.17, 2010, under Sea Fishing

Conditions

Time – 1700-2000
Sea – Flat, Hardly Any Swell at all, maximum of 6″. Great water visibilty.
Weather – Sunny with a few clouds and warm for an autumn day
Wind – North 1 knots (almost none)
Tide – HT – 1905, 4.6m, Neap
Bait – Dexter Wedge 28g, Rapala J11, Maria Angel Kiss, Storm Jelly Shad (pink), Abu Toby Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow (Black .
Tackle – 6′ Ugly Stick, Cheap Shakespeak reel with mono, 50lb clear leader about 4 foot, to Lure.

Notes

We arrived at location at about 2 hours before high tide. Fished a peg against the wall at Saltdean Lido at the far east just before the promenade ends. Started testing out a few lures, including the J11 i had just brought from the tackle shop earlier. No bites, no interest at all. This area was horrible. 1 in 3 or 4 casts would bring up horrific things like dirty bits of tissue on my lure, well stuck on the trebles, so i had to touch it extensively to remove it. Disgusting, I would recommend avoiding this place altogether. I also learned there is an outlet pipe here, it would explain all the foamed water. Sick that this stuff is just being released into the sea!! (continue reading…)

Leeda Carp Match 30 Reel Review

by rev_suicide on Sep.10, 2010, under Course Fishing

I have just won a bargain on EBay, I got a Leeda Carp match 30 for 99p. I used it in the passies pond session the other day. The reel seemed nice to use, putting line on was a doddle, except for the slight noise comming from the reel, I think an idication of not enought greese/oil in the internals, but in my experience this is always the case with cheaper reels. The reel looks great cosmetically with the aluminium spool on, but not so good with the graphite spool on, but still looks good. (continue reading…)

Passies Pond Match Lake 08/09/10

by rev_suicide on Sep.10, 2010, under Course Fishing

Time – 1500-2000
Water – About 1′ visibility, Medium/Good water visibilty.
Weather – Overcast with a clouds a little rain and about 15 degC
Wind – South 10 knots
Bait – Homemade curried Liquidized Bread and homemade Betine and strawberry sweetcorn dyed red
Tackle – Match rod and my my new Leeda carp match 30 reel, 6lb line with lift float and a size14 hook (4BB+)

On way i decided to randomly choose a peg, as this is how it would be in a competition, i randomly chose Peg 18.

Swim 1 - Tight to the right of peg 18, about 2 meters off bank to avoid canadian pond weed

Arrived on site and had to load line on my new Leeda Carp Match 30 reel (review to follow), whilst i loaded this i feed the 2 coosen swims with my new curried liquideized bread, i put in 2 large balls of bread in each swim to let the fish start feeding while i did the chores. One swim was on the far bank just to the left and the other was in the close margins to my right. I also added 5ml on strawberry flavouring, red food dye and betine attractor to some sweetcorn and chopped it up to leave soak at the time. I am using my Shakespear Match 3m rod. (continue reading…)
